Barcode Scanner Requirements
UDI codes are represented by a specific QR code, the GS1 DataMatrix, which is readable by all 2D barcode scanners that support the format.
The UDI QR code is often too small and too complex to be identified via a smartphone camera; a laser reader, however, allows for quick and precise code reading.
A barcode scanner is therefore required:
- 2D, meaning capable of reading QR codes
- enabled to read the GS1 DataMatrix format (UDI codes)
